Recognising achievements

We use AQA’s Unit Award Scheme to recognise people’s achievements across our life skills projects and in our accommodation services, helping learners gain confidence, develop abilities, and build a record of success that supports their personal growth and future opportunities.

How it works

The Unit Award Scheme (UAS) offers an inclusive way for students of all abilities to participate in learning and gain official recognition for their accomplishments. Each time a student completes a unit, they receive a certificate, allowing them to compile a collection that showcases their skills, knowledge, and personal development.

This scheme enhances self-confidence, fosters greater involvement, and boosts motivation, supporting learners as they continue on their path of lifelong education.

Here at COT we are proud to be working with an accredited training provider as dynamic and exciting as we are weird and wonderful.

There are no exams, written tests, or external assessors. Awards can be achieved while learning new, everyday skills, such as doing your laundry, or while exploring complex new topics, such as the National Farm Attraction Network (NFAN) code of conduct.

Here are some examples of how we use AQA’s Unit Award Scheme at COT:

  • Camping (Here at COT, we work hard and play hard)
  • Haggis Hunting at Poulton Wood (A very serious award)
  • NFAN – Zoonotic Diseases on the farm (Explaining the NFAN code of conduct, and our responsibilities towards the public)
  • Public speaking and creating a presentation at our AGM (With Tony, Rachel, Dave and Matt)
  • Moving of livestock on the farm (with Henry)
  • Daily living skills at home (with Rachel and Grace)
  • Interviewing a candidate for employment (Kyle and Paul’s story)
  • Multi-sensory movement (Awards accessible to all)
