Woodland walks
We’ve got three marked trails for you to choose from, full of interesting sights along the way. Just follow the signs and remember to stick to the paths to help us protect these special spaces for future visitors and wildlife. If you see small piles of wood, please leave them stacked, as they are probably part of our conservation and habitat work.
The trails are mostly buggy-friendly in dry weather, though they can get muddy, so do wear sensible shoes – and maybe bring a few snacks for the kids if you’re heading out on a longer loop!
A short and sweet walk that’s ideal for families with young children.
You’ll pass grazing pastures, where you might spot our sheep or cattle, and head into a lovely stretch of ancient woodland before reaching the Giants’ Chairs picnic area – a great spot to stop for a break or a bite to eat.
Carry on downhill (don’t forget to wave to the tractor if it goes by!) and make time for a play in our Mysterious Marsh adventure trail. You’ll also pass by our plants and produce nursery, orchard, and some more open pasture before arriving at the large outdoor play area, where kids can enjoy the hill fort, tube maze and zip wire before heading back to the main farm.
A gentle adventure with a bit more of a woodland feel.
Starting the same way as the Green Walk, this trail takes you further into our ancient woodland. There’s a slight uphill section with boardwalks in the muddier parts. In spring, the woods come alive with carpets of bluebells, primroses, and wood anemones – just beautiful! Please don’t pick the flowers, so everyone can enjoy them.
Keep following the signs and you’ll reach the Giants’ Pencils and the peaceful Secret Lake – a perfect picnic spot. Gather round the Green Man of the Woods totem, and let the kids go wild in the den-building area.
From here, you’ll wander past the Giant Ssssnake and through Parsley Meadow, our seasonal wildflower patch. Stick to the mown paths here so the bees and butterflies can continue to thrive. Then it’s downhill past the sheep fields and back to the Giants’ Chairs, where you can rejoin the Green Walk.
Looking for something a bit different? This one’s for you.
Instead of heading to the lake, the Blue Walk leads you to Rainbow Wood, our special commemorative woodland. Along the way, you’ll discover Whimsy Wood – a quirky stretch filled with poems, fairy doors, woodland oddities and thoughtful sayings. It’s full of charm and fun – ideal for sparking children’s imaginations (and grown-up smiles too!).
Further into Rainbow Wood, you’ll pass thousands of native British trees – oak, ash, hornbeam, field maple and more – many of them planted in memory of loved ones, with dedication plaques dotted along the route. It’s a peaceful, meaningful place to pause and reflect.*
As you make your way round the wood, follow the posts and arrows past the pond and keep your eyes open for butterflies, birds and dragonflies. Eventually, you’ll rejoin the path past the Giant Ssssnake and connect back with the red and green trails towards the farmyard.
So whether you fancy a quick stroll, a magical woodland wander, or a longer adventure through wildflower meadows and fairy-tale trees, there’s a walk here to suit the whole family.
Wellies or sturdy shoes recommended – and don’t forget your camera!
*Sorry, we are no longer accepting new dedications.
