Sensory story

With the help of AccessibleUK, we’ve created a sensory story to help people with different learning needs engage and understand what they can expect to experience at the Rare Breeds Centre.

If you have a person in your group who has special needs, they might find this helpful. You can download it here:

Our exciting accessibility plans for the future

At Canterbury Oast Trust, we’re passionate about creating a truly inclusive and welcoming environment for adults with learning disabilities and autism. As part of our ongoing mission, we’re taking bold steps to make our farm more accessible to visitors with a wide range of disabilities.

Thanks to generous supporters, we’ve already achieved two exciting milestones:

  • A fully accessible tractor trailer ride, which now allows one wheelchair user to enjoy each trip alongside family and friends.
  • A comprehensive accessibility audit, carried out by AccessibleUK, which has given us a detailed roadmap for future improvements.

Guided by the audit’s findings, we’re now developing an ambitious plan to upgrade key areas across the site — and we’ll soon be launching a major fundraiser to help make it all happen.

One crucial part of this plan is the installation of a Changing Places facility, enabling wheelchair users to access bathroom facilities with dignity and independence. We’ve already raised half the funds needed for this vital project — and would love to have your help if you are able to contribute. Let us know by using the button below.

Assistance dogs

Most dogs are not allowed on the farm for a variety of reasons, including the safety and comfort of our farm animals.

  • The only dogs generally allowed on the farm are assistance dogs.
  • We do not usually allow any emotional support animals including dogs on the farm. For special circumstances you can contact our farm team for guidance: info@rarebreeds.org.uk

We welcome you to the farm
